Delivering Low-Carbon Energy to Edinburgh's St James Quarter

Bring Energy provides heating, cooling and power to the St James Quarter - one of the UK’s largest and most ambitious mixed-use developments. The £1 billion regeneration scheme combines residential, retail, leisure and hospitality spaces, all served by a single low-carbon energy network.

High-Capacity Heating, Cooling, and Power Distribution System

The network’s energy centre is located beneath the development, spanning two basement levels, with the cooling plant installed on the roof of the John Lewis building. The system delivers up to 11.2 MW of heating and 4.5 MW of cooling, as well as high-voltage (HV) electricity to support building operations.

By integrating efficient gas-fired combined heat and power (CHP) engines and low-temperature hot-water (LTHW) boilers, the scheme provides resilient, cost-effective energy to a diverse range of customers — from apartments and hotels to shops, restaurants and entertainment venues.

Driving Edinburgh’s Low-Carbon Future

The network plays a key role in Edinburgh’s wider sustainability strategy, demonstrating how city-centre developments can achieve long-term carbon reductions through locally delivered energy infrastructure.
