We were thrilled to welcome Mary Creagh CBE MP, Minister of State for Nature (and Circular Economy) and MP for Coventry East, to Coventry University’s pioneering Heatline district energy scheme on Friday!

The Minister heard all about our innovative 8km underground heat network, which uses excess heat from a nearby waste processing facility to power iconic buildings like Coventry Cathedral and The Wave Waterpark.

With plans to expand and connect nine additional Coventry University buildings, the Heatline network could soon cut the University’s carbon emissions by over 1,300 tonnes annually – a big step towards a greener, more resilient future for Coventry. Future phases could even tap into exciting new heat sources like recovered heat from nearby flooded mines.

A huge thanks to Mary Creagh CBE MP, Coventry University, Coventry City Council, and all our partners in supporting this project. Special thanks to Lowell Lewis, Cllr Jim O’ Boyle, Karl Starkey MSc CEng MEI and Katie Treadwell for joining us, as well as Lisa Hofen BA CIWFM MRICS MBA FCMI CMgr, Selina Fletcher, Michael Checkley CEnv MIEMA, Keith Perry and Chitro Ghose from Coventry University. Thanks to Richard Burrell, Mark Anderson, Mark Brown, and Ian Weeks.
